3 Tricks to Alleviating Allergies
Tuesday - September 20th, 2016
Have you ever experienced toothaches when your allergies flare up?
This can happen because congestion in certain sinuses (the maxillary sinuses under your eyes on each side of your nose, to be exact) can put pressure on the roots of your upper teeth, causing them to ache. Here are a few ways to relieve that sinus pressure for your teeth.
- Neti pots: Neti pots irrigate the nasal passages using a saline solution. They flush out the nasal passages, clearing them of irritating substances and mucus that’s stuck in the nasal passage.
- Nasal sprays: Nasal sprays which are available at most drugs stores are another way to help relieve allergy symptoms. There are three main kinds: decongestants that help alleviate stuffiness; saline sprays which work like a neti pot; and steroid sprays which clear up stuffy noses.
- Spicy foods: If you’re a spicy food lover, this might be the most appealing way to clear up congestion. However, know that not all spicy foods clear your sinuses; in fact some may aggravate sinusitis. Cayenne pepper, curry powders, mustard, horseradish, black pepper, garlic, and ginger are all good sinus-clearing spice options.
